That's where draft strategy and the excitement of the trade deadline come into play. In my other league, which has started its finals this week, I drafted players who specifically would be successful but on above average, middle of the pack teams. This strategy was due to knowing that players from the Spurs and Heat would be resting near the end of the season. If I had known our league ended earlier, I wouldn't have made the trade with xbay that sent Parker to him for Rondo. I saw that the Celtics were struggling this season and saw it as an opportunity to get the best player on a middle of the pack team for someone who I knew was going to rest later (the reason I never end seasons with spurs players... always trade them away early)... That trade ended up biting me in the ass anyway with Rondo going down, but my point is that I would have held on to Parker as he fit my team perfectly.

I'm not making an excuse, I take blame for it since I didn't thoroughly check the settings. But I think for future fantasy seasons, things like this should be discussed... unless they were and I missed that too :? haha.

blah blah blah.. As far as I'm concerned, the last two weeks didn't mean shite because so many players were sitting...

AND I WON!! :neener: :violin:

It's fair enough though because other than the fact that the best players are sitting or injured, it does function like the playoffs of real bball:

You can make the playoffs, but then it's do or die.

Totally see what youre saying and agree things would be different if we did that..............and you are right, it was never specifically said "Ohh yeah, our finals week will be week 23 only, not week 24 and 25".

The reason for that being, that as far as I can recall, we have always done that (including leagues I know youve been in, the one where I upset you in the finals 2 years back was the same). When I set up the league, I made some changes like bigger rosters and slightly different roster set up but nothing else so it all just carried over from the last time we and you played it, plus I asked if everyone was ok with it to make sure and could have obviously changed it pre-draft.

Sorry man, feel shitty that you feel hard done by..............check it all and/or speak up next time! :D

Ohh and one more thing, considering how it would have all been different if youd "known"..............making the final and losing 4-5 isnt bad. :D

I can't believe I won!! I never win anything!! Wooflippinghoo!!!

Oh She~man, thanks for being such a good sport especially being beaten by a girl (or lady as i think is more appropriate ;) ) and one that picked her team off the back of players names (I did do some stats too ~ promise!).

I'd like to apologise for not being involved on the board throughout, I'm sure most you of understand that I am utterly swamped with my degree and have to discipline myself (so I'm not on here chatting etc which I could do for hours when trying to put off writing).

final year is meant to be a bit more relaxed work wise, so hopefully you'll let me be part of the next league and all enjoy getting your 'butts' kicked again by a girl ;) I for one have really enjoyed it

I would like to say the BEST thing about winning is that I have beaten BIGS!!! It's been fun this end with me whipping his ass!! hahahaha! Suck it baby :partydance: :partydance:

Oh nah don't feel bad bro. Like I said, that was my fault. I have no hard feelings towards it and I'm happy with the result considering how my season was looking for the first 4 months.

Congrats, Jen! Quite an achievement to beat Bigs and win the title!

And thank you all for taking part on this season's fantasy league, guys. It was a really good and fun season, and hopefully one we can carry on into next year's.

Right, as we all here enjoying our boys getting their playoff thing on! thought it might a good time to get everyones attention with the proposed changes to our keeper system.

TMC and I discussed it briefly a page or so ago but I wanted to lay down my initial thoughts for the changes............want to shake things up and make keepers a much more intriguing and strategic thing.

So, for those who have not done a keeper league before and/or dont know what its all about, the previous system was as follows =

1 - You were allowed 2 players to "keep" on your team following into the new season/draft. This would be at the expense of of either your first and second round pick.

2 - So you decide to keep a player, he negates your first round pick (regardless of his actual value/whether he was/is a first round worthy player) and if you decide to keep a 2nd player, then he negates your second round pick. You could not choose or allocate which player relates to which pick, so you could not keep one player and have him be your 2nd round keeper...........1 keeper takes the first, the other keepers takes the second rounder, no choice or negotiation.

Pretty simple and restricted really only to players obviously only worthy of being picked in the first and 2nd rounds............handy perhaps if you picked at the top in the draft and finished around the top at the end of the season (ie: Pat took LeBron with the first overall pick but finished 3rd overall at the end, so as the draft order is decided by reverse league position, he could keep LeBron at the expense of the number 7 overall pick......great value of course).

Now, hope that makes sense to those who have not done it before..........if not, then just ask!

The new system is now as follows =

1 - We keep 3 players, due to the bigger roster set up than normal we started with.

2 - The player/s you keep do not automatically negate your first and 2nd round pick without negotiation..............they negate the pick/round in which you previously picked them! (thats the big change).

So what that means is that if you drafted a guy in the 12th round before but he returned 4th round value, you would probably want to keep him........but in the old system you would be FORCED to give up a first or 2nd rounder to do so, hence he would not be worth it!

But now you can keep him where you drafted him...........with a couple of conditions though.

A - Players that were originally selected after round 9, will have a one round penalty on them.............so if you got a guy in the 14th round who you want to keep, then it will cost you a 13th round pick this year (and if you keep him again the year after, then it will be a 12th rounder).

B - This includes players you claimed off waivers who were not drafted originally..............so an un-drafted waiver player you want to keep would cost you your 14th round pick (in a sense your last/15th rounder but with the 1 round penalty as its after round 10).

Anyone selected in rounds 1-9 are keepable at their original draft slot (only problem will be if someone wants to keep a guy who they picked in round 10 but also wants to keep their 9th round pick, they will have to make a choice).

C - If you claimed a player off waivers who WAS orginally drafted, then the round he was picked in by his original owner will apply...........he wont be a waiver player (hence a 14th rounder) just because you got him off waivers (due to examples/exploits like me picking up Kyrie at the end of the season for his 2 game return but if I wanted to keep him then I would have to give up my 2nd rounder, as per where he was originally drafted).

Hope that all makes sense and you guys like it? any and all questions/suggestions welcomed and obviously no need to think or worry about it for a while............just laying it out there to get some feedback (think Ive covered everything............man, it sounded a lot less complicated in my head. :D )

Cool. Like the new system much better than the old.

Except... can we please stick to keeping just two players? 3 seems a bit excessive and takes away a bit of strategy in choosing who to keep and from the draft itself.

Don't like keepers. We should just start fresh. Especially if we have some new participants next season. Would not be fair to them. We all have keepers, they have none. Though I will keep Lebron

and would we all know who is keeping who before the draft goes down? That would help with draft strategy.

I've got no problem with starting fresh and doing a no-keepers league as well.

In any case, if it's a keeper's league, everybody would have to announce who they're keeping a few days before the draft, Pat. Don't worry about it.

Yeah, keepers would be announced, listed on the first page of the thread and also removed from the available player list on yahoo all way before the draft.

Pat, the way we would get around the whole "not fair to new players" element you mentioned is that the replacement managers we get will have to inherit the teams we are getting them for.

So they could still have keepers, it would just be from a team they didnt originally draft............but with the new system, there are bound to be players who are worth keeping (which probably wouldnt be the case with the old system given that these teams werent very good).

Is that the only reason you wouldnt want to do it? if so, then I hope that makes a difference..............otherwise, we will take a vote when we can get everyone in.

TMC, yeah, the 3 keeper was the only part of it I wasnt sure on.............I thought that way after doing my baseball draft where we had 6 keepers! lol, granted much bigger rosters but THAT much bigger so thought as we upped the roster size last year then we should up the keeper amount as well.

Anyway, we can vote on that too.

Heard Greg Papa use this phrase. It sounded like a good fantasy team name:
