Ok people..............just gauging interest here, seeing as we dont have a lot of time in theory to get this going, got some questions to answer too:

    1 - So, whos in?

2 - TMC, do you want to commish again? if not............who would like to take over? I would throw my hat in the ring again if no-one else wants too.

3 - Do we want to carry on last years keeper league? I would like to so thats one vote..............if people from last year want to drop out then Im sure we can get people to replace them, like Ballerz who has already expressed interest.

4 - How do we want to do the draft?.............the auto pick for football worked well I think, we could even do a combo of keeper and auto pick...........with people naming their keepers, the commish then allocates to the correct team and then auto pick does the rest.

Or do we want to go with a board draft and have strict rules about selection time............like 6 or 8 hours max to make a selection and if you miss it you get a default ranked player. Should be able to make it work and I would prefer we do a board draft.............but its the timing of course.

    What say you?

Those signed up so far =

    Bigs (Returning)
    Chum (Returning)
    Ballerz (New)
    Xbay (Returning)
    Nachos (Returning)
    E-Man (Returning)
    Sleandres (New)
Bada (New - but only if we are in a real pinch without him)

Those not returning so need replacements for =

    TMC
    Antoknee
    TheAbstract
Always be a Warrior (the last 3 were all E-Man's buds)
    RobDIKUM
    Quazza
Money (Not in last years but declared out).

Those up for keeping the "Keeper" format =

    Bigs
    Ballerz - Either way
    Xbay - Either way
    Nachos
    E-Man

I only played one year of fantasy on TOS so I hope that this is an H2H league?

And I have NO idea how to play in a keepers league or a combo draft that you mentioned. I would, however, be wiling to learn. Oh and I prefer a board draft as those are fun to keep up with :D . But the downside is that pick timings would have to be kept at, as you said, 6-8 hrs max.

Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL 2 - Lets Get This Going...

Its cool man, enthusiasm is all we want.............as someone who leaves there team because they cant be arsed is the most annoying thing in the fantasy world.

As for the league, yep its H2H............none of that roto bollocks.

The keeper league is pretty straight forward.............if we keep that format (ie: follow on from what we did last year and not just start all over) you would assume someone's team (someone who wanted to drop out).

And because it was a "keeper league"...............you would be able to "keep" 1-2 of the players on that team whilst sacrificing either your first or second round pics, depending on whether you keep 1 player (sacrificing your first pick) or 2 players (sacrificing 1st and 2nd picks).

You can choose to not keep any, its up to you................it all depends on draft position..............because the draft position/order is done on the basis of last years finishing positions. So as I won the league, I would pick last.

Now, heres the strategy of it..............I have Chris Paul, typically a top 3 pick..............so, given that I will be picking at either 8 or 10, depending on how many teams we have, it would be pretty smart for me to have Paul as my first "keeper"..............because Id be getting a top 3 pick with the 8th or 10th pick in the draft.

I dont have anyone else on my final roster who is worth a 2nd round pick..............so I would just have Paul as my keeper, sacrifice my first rounder and then pick from the second round onwards.

The "combo draft" I mentioned was in the case of if we go for an auto pick draft (ie: we dont manually select our players, say on the board) because we cant arrange a live draft or because it just takes too long. If we wanted to stick with the keeper league format, whoever the commish is could manually put the desired keeper players on the relevant rosters.............and then set the auto draft to do the rest.

    All make sense?

I'll join in. I mean, why not? 66 games.

Keeper? I don't mind. Whichever the majority wants, I'll side on that.

Thanks for the explanation Bigs, the Chris Paul example was really helpful. I'm glad it's H2H...keeper league sounds interesting, but I think I'd rather have a fresh start. Obviously my viewpoint is biased, but that's my vote. :|

Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL 2 - Lets Get This Going...

    Nice one Xbay.

Hey Ballerz, dont speak too soon man..............it all depends on whether you inherit a pre-existing team.

Yes you could choose to scrap it all and make your own but say if you get a team with a consensus top 3-5 star.............but you are picking outside of the top 3-5, then it would only make sense for you to use one of the keeper spots on that player.

Will all depend on whether we stick with that format...........obviously if we start all over, then it wont matter.............but wait until you know whether you/which team you inherit and whos on it.

Ps: Jen has reluctantly agreed to carry on with her team..............."Yeah sure, why not, cuz I have has sooooooooo much free time!"

I'm in... Need to come back and prove that I should have been better than 3rd place! As far as keeper, I'm down.

I think a board draft would be best as long as we make sure to stick to our rules of being within the time limit.

    Impossible.

I'm coming back to prove I'm better than 2nd ... meaning, I will dethrone Bigs and I will not allow you to sit any higher than below me at the throne.

Haha. In the words of the late Mills Lane... "Let's get it on!"

In fairness to Baller (and any new fantasy owners that come in), since it looks that we will likely be staying with the keeper league format we can offer one of two things that I can think of...

    1) On a first come first serve basis, they can choose a team of an owner that has not returned and keep which ever players they would like to

    or

    2) Randomize the new owners in order and place them as the first picks for the draft.

Since we are only keeping UP TO 2 players, then others will be placed in reverse order of last years standings (I believe that's what we decided was going to happen, yeah?)

    'ear 'ear!

I'd be down for either option, although #1 seems pretty fair to me. Anyone wanna hook me up with the link to the old keeper league so I can check out the teams I might inherit? :D

Plus, we gotta haul some ass if there really will be an offline draft, December's almost here.

Don't know if you'll be able to see it or not... I'm not sure if yahoo let's you see the teams if you weren't in the league (for private leagues anyway). You can try though. The teams available would likely be any of my boys' teams as I doubt they'll be back. That is theabstract, Team AntOKnee, and Always be a Warriors.

Definitely do.. but in order to get started, we need more participants! kinda sucks with anything less than 12 teams.

Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL 2 - Lets Get This Going...

    Ok, few things here:

1 - You wont be able to see the league Ballerz because it was a private league, so you wont have access.

On this point, to be honest, I dont like the idea of being able to choose which team you inherit.............as lets say there are 4 teams that need new owners, and they contain some marquee players............I dont think its particularly fair for everyone returning to their teams to not have the same choice. So it should be randomized and the new people get given a team by fair method.

2 - Numbers of players..........for me, this is important to the above also.............because I feel that for the keeper league to work, we need the EXACT same amount of teams again, which would be 12, because if there are teams that get put back into the pot, then it would change the dynamic of deciding whether to keep your own players or not.

So for me, we have to have 12 teams or we scrap it all and start again.

3 - As for the draft..............I really dont see us being able to do a board draft in time. Also, say if we started on the 9th (which would still be too late in my mind) then we wouldnt know which free agents are going where and so adjust their draft position accordingly, we wouldnt know about trades and what not and so people could end up being screwed over.

Plus, as E-Man say, we cant start until we know who wants to play...............and that might even take a while as people arent responding to this right away, even if its just to say no............WE NEED CONFIRMATION PEOPLE!!! so we know where we stand and what we can work with.

Overall, I think its going to have to be an autodraft like it was with football..............whether we keep the keeper element will depend on whether we get the same amount of teams again, which unfortunately I cant see happening.

So for the sake of endlessly worrying about and trying to take all these variables and decisions into account..............just get who we get and do an autodraft close to when the season starts.

Ohh and lets get this as an announcement, cant hurt.

Sorry, guys, but I won't be able to join this year. Didn't have time to do the football one, much less a bball fantasy league that takes a lot more time. Hopefully next year...

Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL 2 - Lets Get This Going...

That would be great man, thanks. Have any thoughts about the above questions/issues Sleandres?

You drafted already? damn.............I learnt my lesson after drafting 2 NFL teams quite a ways before the season, or at least before camps and pre-season, started.

Im having 3 teams again this year in basketball............see if I can repeat with my 3 for 3 championships last year!

Hey, I just realised that we only need 4 more now..............Quazza! KC! Rob! let us know what you want to do with your teams!!!

Who else can we get? Dubs maybe, FINALLY get Money involved. ;) ..............even more of a long shot, see if we can Bada into it abit more after his first venture into it for awhile last year. :xross:

what time would a live draft be at? with the different time zones would it be much of a problem if we did it on a saturday?

Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL 2 - Lets Get This Going...

LOL, I would think that getting beat by my sh*tty team.............ie: being thoroughly out coached! :D ..............would be motivation enough to come back and take another shot at me.

Dude, I dont know man.............how many times have we tried to organise a live draft? its never worked and NOT because of time zone issues but mostly because not everyone replies and says yes or no.

I mean the only time zone issues we have are Jen, me and Quaz.............Jen and me would be fine with anything but Quaz hasnt even said he wants to do it yet.

Given all of that, plus the history of the failed attempts to do live drafts in this and football, Im not sure I even want to waste time trying to organise it.

I envision us going with a auto draft, like we did with football this year but the only difference being if we ALL decide to have keepers and get enough people to take over the 12 teams.

Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL 2 - Lets Get This Going...

Ohh and for the new people signing up..............here are the teams that will probably need filling (some for sure) and their draft spot so you can have a think about whether it would be worth exercising the keeper option =

TMC's team (He has confirmed he isnt coming back):

He finished 5th, so would be picking at the number 8 spot.

    D.J. Augustin
    Carlos Boozer
    Kobe Bryant
    DeMarcus Cousins
    Toney Douglas
    Marcin Gortat
    Blake Griffin
    J.J. Hickson
    Grant Hill
    Jrue Holiday
    Wesley Matthews
    Paul Millsap
    Derrick Rose
    John Salmons

Always a Warrior (Confirmed not coming back):

He finished 9th, so would be picking at the number 4 spot.

    Nicolas Batum
    Marco Belinelli
    Vince Carter
    Jamal Crawford
    Tyreke Evans
    Nene Hilario
    Dwight Howard
    Jason Kidd
    Corey Maggette
    Lamar Odom
    Luis Scola
    Tyrus Thomas
    Charlie Villanueva
    Reggie Williams

    AntoKnee (Confirmed not coming back):

He finished 12th, so would be picking at the number 1 spot.

    Al-Farouq Aminu
    Chauncey Billups
    Manu Ginobili
    Spencer Hawes
    Wes Johnson
    Andrei Kirilenko
    Brook Lopez
    Andre Miller
    Travis Outlaw
    Luke Ridnour
    Rajon Rondo
    Brandon Roy
    Brandon Rush
    Ben Wallace

There are others who we dont know are coming back yet.............LIKE ROB AND QUAZZA!!!!!.............so will hold off posting those teams until we know whats going on.

But just so the new guys can get a feel for the kind of teams available and their draft position.
