    Ohh yeah!!!

Was thinking about this this morning.

Gonna be interesting to see the value and draft positions for LeBron, Wade and even Bosh drop a little considering they just CANT produce the kind of numbers they have being the main men, whilst playing all together.

I mean LeBron might............but there just wont be enough balls for them to all get assists and shots...........unless they ONLY pass to each other.

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

Probably the fact that there are games every single day, and you have to set up your lineups for them... that's one of the reasons some people don't like fantasy bball.

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

But..........wouldnt that make it exciting!?...........having to constantly be on the ball and thinking about your team?

Id understand if people said they just dont have time or cant be arsed to keep up with a fantasy league.............but not boring???

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

i always forget to set my lineups on some days. It's a bit tedious having to go through a whole season. The two times i've tried, i do ok through half the season, but end up out of it toward the end.

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

that is one of the problems but I just dont think they way it is typically scored makes it the sport translate very well to fantasy. I hate how all the catagories are weighted the same... it promotes middle of the road players and for people at the end of the week to sit players to lock in their %'s and turnovers. just silly.

I played fantasy basketball for about 7 years and more times than not, the winning team was filled with average players.. guys that did not shoot a ton but shot good %'s and did not handle the ball much to keep their TO's down.

There is no way that FT% or other categories like that should be worth the same as points, rebounds, etc. I have seen people "protect" their standings by playing one player, just one game for the week and winning FG%, FT %, 3p%, TO's etc. Like 4 of the 10 categories by playing just one game.

I think each player should be evaluated on a formula that is more grounded in real evaluation and given points. then add up the points for your roster and there you have the winner for the weekly matchup.

    something like:

    Pts +(0.7 * offensive rebounds) + (0.3 * Def Rebounds) + Stls + (0.5 * Blocks) + (0.5 * Assists) - (0.7 * FG missed) - FGM - (0.35 * FT missed) - (0.5 * FTM) - TOs - (0.5 * PF)

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

    Yeah, makes sense fellas.

Suppose Ive only played it once and havnt really got extremely used to seeing all those scenarios of fixing it by resting players, play out.

Once you start to understand it then yeah, its pretty easy to fix like that............I just didnt think of those in my first season.

But Ill give it another try............ohh and by the way, THIS might make you want to do it for the fun of seeing...............my lady Jen have her own team!

She played it the same year I did (I did all her drafting and team changes but she managed the lineups and stuff) and really enjoyed it...........gets her knowing players better and understanding the game more in general.

So yeah, if want to compete against Ms Nachos herself!!! (and I just told her that both of you arent doing and she said "What!!! ohh no. ).........then change your mind!

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

What Bada says is true. I've often seen how somebody doesn't even play his games in the final day of the week because he has a few categories locked and doesn't want to risk TOs or %. It's a bit ridiculous...

But hey, I even manage to won one league a couple of years ago... and did that without checking the stats too much and never using strategies like the above... it was a really fun league and it can be that way again if we have a good group of people that just do it for fun.

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

Well thats the thing isnt it............when I did, I played players when they were playing! and never thought of cheating in that way but holding people back.

I remember when I had a couple of players, and was close in a couple of catagories they were bad in............and it never crossed my mind to not play them...........guess Im just too honest.

And that what I mean and what TMC is getting at............we wont have a bunch of assholes playing, everyone here is a stand up guy and I couldnt see them doing that, unless they dont feel it is cheating or taking advantage of it all I suppose.

Cant we set it up so it DOESNT include some of those stats that could potentially be scammed like that?............perhaps elimnating turnovers and FT% as a start.

Might help, might make it limited and boring..........I dont know?

ANYWAY! Jen is about to come in here and tell you two off for not participating!!!

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

but the problem is it is NOT cheating... it is a strategy. since it is random how many games players play during the week, there is no minimum.... in any case, it is just not a sport that I think translates to fantasy sports well and I get bored by about the 3rd week. so I will pass.

Ah Bada that's a shame I was looking forward to beating your ass!!!

    I'm definitely in TMC.

Also Bigs, I did actually pick my team. However, they weren't based on anything apart from if i liked their name. Typical woman!!
I did do well in the fantasy league I beat Bigs and revelled in that until i realized the only reason I actually beat him was down to the fact he was helping me :bang

However, I know alot more about the league now I am actually think I could pick an ok team this time round, based more on stats than if they're called frank or bob!!!

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

I'm in. I think I'll only have two or three fantasy teams this year as opposed to my normal 5 haha. I usually tend to play in a public league just for the sake of draft practice... but it's not much help when I kill everyone. I wouldn't even set those teams and I'd get first or second place. Anyways, I'm sure this league would be a lot more competitive.

Hopefully we can get 12 participants to spread out draft... I don't usually like when there's really good players in Free Agency and people can just keep adding and dropping to their liking. Maybe if there's less than 12 participants we can implement a 50 Free Agent Transaction cap?

    Re: WRT FANTASY BASKETBALL

Yes, we can discuss that option in case we have less than 12 participants. 50 transactions is a good limit, I think.
