I didn't think the leg insurance would come in handy this early for Cristiano Ronaldo. Sad to read that not only will he likely not play in Brazil, but he may not play ever again.

Side note: The Aussies look great this year. They stood tall against the Dutch today. Unfortunately, they won't even make runners up thanks to Chile. But hey, potentially finishing 3rd with Spain in 4th is an accomplishment.

Just got back in from Mexico today. Got a chance to watch Mexico vs. Brazil in a bar in the town of Tonala. It was a small bar and our group was the largest group in there. It was a good atmosphere and an incredible game. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a soccer game that much.

That's pretty cool. My friend the other day said, "Imagine if we were in a bar full of Mexicans as Ochoa put on that goalie clinic."

I'd imagine it'd be like a Filipino household during a Pacquiao fight.

Oh man we were going crazy.. There were only about 20 people in the bar, it's a cool bar right on the street. So while watching the game you hear ambient noise of traffic and people right outside.

We were out of our minds, 3 buckets of beer (10 each) , super chavelas for the girls (large mug of beer with lime, salt and a shot if tequila), and we were pretty drunk lol. The total cost equated to about 50 American dollars.

 , Yep pretty much! What a frustrating sport...90 minutes of 0-0, over and over again.

They played defense for 90 minutes. Tim Howard deserves a medal for the clinic he put on. And the offense generated chances, but just couldn't cap it off.

Still a great run. The team came a long way and looked much better than the 2010 squad. The sport garnered more respect from Americans, too. I'd say mission accomplished.

I agree xbay.. I started to understand how plays develop much more than I had before. Similar to how people don't like low scoring in hockey, but a fan can understand scoring chances and shots on goal. In soccer, you don't get as many shots on goal but the scoring chances develop so early, many of them get stuffed near midfield, but understanding the intent is something I'm learning to enjoy.

It's like what Bogut said when someone asked for offsides to be eliminated, "Less is more."

There should be a line about 10 yards outside the goal box. Once the ball is past that line, no offsides...

    Disagree.

I'd hate to see cherry pickers. Offsides prevents lines from cheating. The field is too big to cheat on defenders.

Re: Thread For Bigs and TMC, And Now War Years, To Talk Socc

Cherry picking to me suggests a guy hanging out down field, completely away from the play/ball. That would not be allowed, as they would still be offsides under the rule.
it's not cherry picking if the play (ball) is inside the 20 yard line, and offensive players cannot go past that line until the ball does... at that point it would be all about the momentum of the play, who is faster, and who responds in the moment the best. Offensive players would be able to attack the net more often, more goals, and defensive players would be prevented from creating that offsides line just outside the perimeter of the goal box. Offsides would still be called for the rest of the field, just not once the ball is inside that 20 yard zone of the goal.
