The best team won the world cup and it was much deserved. I am not a big fan of Germany as a country, but since I am of European descent, I was rooting for them.

No doubt. They were the Spurs of this year's cup.

I know you don't pay attention to futbol, anymore, TMC, but being that you're the closest to the situation, what's going on with this tax evasion with Lionel Messi?

Not much, it's just a bs charge. His dad probably did it and he's going to be indicted because of it, but most likely will end up with a not guilty verdict. The state attorney doesn't even want to pursue the case against him, only against his dad, so there's that...

Does anybody besides me on this board follow the Quakes? I have been meaning to ask that for a while.

They are looking pretty good this year. I love the return to the black home kits, and the team itself seems much less passive than last year. The additions of Hyka and Lima have totally transformed the attack, with both seeming to be creative when going at defenders. Lima looks like the real deal, showing both energy on defense and the ability to get forward from the RB position and contribute in the final third. Wondo is still Wondo. TT looked good in the first game when we got run, but Kinnear seems to still be stubborn about giving him consistent minutes. I would really like to see TT/Hyka on the outside with Dawkins being a sort of super sub, but with Dawkins being a DP and also Dom's tendency to favor vets, it looks like another year of TT riding the pine.

Highlight of the season so far has been Godoy, and I would say its not even close. His advanced metrics look insane. For example, he passed at something like 98% on 115 (!!!) passes in the second match against Vancouver. He is averaging around 4 tackles per game, and has rarely looked out of position on defense. Two goals in two games is of course the cherry on top, and he looks like not only our much needed link between the back line and the attackers, but one of the top midfielders in MLS.

Overall, 2-0-0 start with the exciting comeback win last week has me pretty excited about the Quakes this year. There are areas that we can improve, and they started exactly the same last year and still finished second worst in the conference so we'll see. But guarded optimism is where I am at.

Nope. Now that my son has quit playing soccer, I never have to watch that ridiculously stupid sport again.

Jeez Bada, Matt Barnes doesn't play for the Earthquakes!!

I never got too much into soccer. I wish i could enjoy it more. It seems like i only pay attention during the World Cup. Its a patience i guess i haven't developed.

Having coached soccer, I can appreciate the finer points of the game. But I cannot stay engaged for an entire match unless they getting a ton of shots on goal.

Same with Hockey. I played for fourteen years, love the game. But have never gotten into watching it.

For me, the interest in Soccer started with the 2010 World Cup, the first one that I ever watched. I love the constant movement, the way that players have to work together to move the ball up the pitch. In my opinion it is the furthest thing from boring, its constant action and interaction. The lack of commercials also gripped me right away. To me soccer bares a lot of similarities to basketball actually, in regards to flow, movement and spacing being important. Its almost like an elegant dance where every player on the pitch must work in rhythm. I can't claim to be the biggest soccer fan that exists, but I do love the game and will usually stop to watch a match (in any league) if I am not doing anything particular. I do more closely follow the Champions League, SJ Earthquakes and of course the World Cup.

I've always enjoyed playing a lot more than watching. Some games are entertaining, but it's a sport that can get tedious easily.

I still find time to follow Tottenham and my hometown team, Real Oviedo, but that's about it, and only highlights unless it's a big game and I don't have anything else to do.

I loved playing it as an adolescent. It was incredibly fun to just be out there. And it's still fun when you can get a big game with friends. It's not a great spectating sports, personally. The World Cup is definitely something to capture live since it is a world wide event, but everything else, there isn't much interest generated for me to sit and watch for the 90+ minutes.

i guess for me, i would need to really take ownership of a team and root for them. Then it becomes more exciting. The potential of a scoring chance for or against becomes a much bigger deal. As a casual observer, you get drawn into great plays, and those aren't as common throughout a full soccer game.
