Better late than never, I'm starting this thread because it's not worth it to have a single thread for each game or something like that, particularly with so few of us posting.

Anyways, and to not digress too much (something I'm really good at, let me tell you), The Last Of Us II is a perfect game in narrative terms. F*cking amazing!

We can discuss if it could have been done better in terms of gameplay. But the narrative structure is flawless. I'm really happy games are evolving that way.

PlayStation 5 makes me want to game again. I stopped gaming after 2016 when I owned an Xbox One. But I love the things Sony comes out with and their next gen console along with the titles that are exclusive to them are awesome.

Sony has something going for them that nobody else has, and that's the number of exclusive titles, lots of them really, really good.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do enjoy a good story. Sometimes it'll be a book, a movie, a tv show... but gaming has stepped up in that narrative aspect lately. TLoU is a great example, but far from the only one.

And Cyberpunk is coming in a few months, too...

I dont play a lot of video games, but recently dusted off my playstation 3. I needed some sports, so I downloaded NBA Jam on fire addition and love it!

I dont play enough to invest money in a playstation 5, and am totally fine with the graphics and cheap game prices of the PS 3

There's a lot of difference when we're talking about a two-generation gap, tho...

Agreed. As I got older, I was the guy that would prioritize campaigns over online play. I loved GTA 5. Mycareer in NBA 2k. TLoU. Uncharted. Anything where I could help control the narrative was fun. Like you said, I just love a good story.

With the money I have won playing NBA jam, I was able to buy Tim Hardaway and Chris Mullin... fun to play with them. My next purchase was Dominique Wilkins and Spud Webb... best dunking combo in the game.

Man, you want to go old school. Atari, Intellivision.. Galaga, Pacman, Donkey Kong, Tetris, Frogger, Joust, Street Fighter, etc. etc..
Also played a good amount of Mike Tyson's Punch Out and the early NBA Jams Kemp and Payton were my go to.

About as far as I got with online games (rpg's) was Diablo. I used to play online with a friend who was really (much more than me) into it.
I dropped out when he and his buds switched over to World of Warcraft when it first came out.
I didn't want to invest/waste the money or time on it any longer.

From time to time, I will still play a bit of Age of Empires, but offline.

I wish we still had our Wii set up right now. It'd be great for some indoor exercise. swords, boxing, tennis...

Great thread TMC. I dont game much either anymore but Last of Us is my favorite game EVER. I am not too far on Last of Us II... still Seattle Day 1 but just LOVE the game. The writing, voice acting, graphics... just flat out AMAZING!!!

My boys got me into NBA 2K20 a few months ago but I am just terrible. My Player is a ton of fun (at the all-star break) right now, but when I play Park, I just get shit on and can't make a shot. Getting the timing to "green" a shot is impossible for this old guy.

Finished TLoU II last saturday. It's controversial (if you haven't read about the story, try to stay away from the internet til you've finished the whole game... it's worth it), and I can see why, but personally, I LOVED IT. It's a f*cking masterpiece.

It has its flaws, some of them technical, some of them about length, but overall, it can only be described as a marvel. It takes you to places where a game is not supposed to take you. It has a fitting ending (no, I'm not gonna say anything, this is all spoiler-free... many people hate it, I think it's perfect for the story it tells). It's supposed to make you think. It's bleak, because it has to be. The controversial decisions in the storytelling all pay off, and some of them were necessary, even tho people fail to realize it's not a game about "killing zombies and bad guys". It's not. It never was. That's just the background. The point of the game was always about the emotional response of the characters to the situations they go through. It has been done well in indie games, but I don't remember an AAA game that does it so well. Red Dead Redemption II (can't talk about the first one, never played it) does it as well, but at a very different pace, and only on certain moments. It's not comparable, imho.

It's the kind of game that everybody should play. But only after finishing the first one. You may like it, you may not, but you won't come out of it as nothing happened. It's going to make you think, and if it doesn't, it just means you're empty inside.

I don't think I can be any more clear. Go play the best game of this generation. Like now.

I'm sh*t in NBA 2k20, and I don't play online. It's just not my cup of tea. I love single-player games, and to be able to beat them at my pace. Currently, I'm playing Disco Elysium (another great game, done with a lot of love for RPGs and not much of a budget, check it if you don't know what I'm talking about) and waiting for Cyberpunk in November.

Thank you TMC for no spoilers!!! I have been avoiding ANY news about this game as to not be spoiled. It sounds so stupid to say this about a dang video game but it actually evokes an emotional response from me... much like a great movie that you are totally submersed in. The wait was so long in between (what was it like 5-7 years?) but man, such a great experience. I force myself to stop playing after about an hour so that I can prolong it.

Yeah, I like single player stuff much better. I play Park only because my kids wanted me to play 3 on 3 Park games with them. Needless to say, we get wrecked. I can't make a shot and can't defende anyone... well at least on the perimeter. I get put "on skates" as my kids would say every time. My Career is really fun however. I loved going through the draft process.

I think the first one is from 2013 (haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure that's the year), so yeah, 7 years... a LONG time. But if they use that time to make a game so good as this one, it's all worth it.

Also spoiler-free: there's one narrative decision, a huge one, more or less in the middle of the game that has become the whole reason for people being so riled up, even angry, against the game. I'm gonna say it again, I LOVED it. I think that it not only made sense, but it was also really brave. Can't wait to read what you think once you reach that point, Bada. And I know you'll be back to comment on that. Just hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I think you will.

Also, it's a pretty intense game (albeit it has a few valleys among those peaks). Probably more enjoyable that way...

You both have me so intrigued I searched for this game, read up on it, then shopped PS4 consoles.
Almost bought one when my 16 year old said I should wait for the new PS5...

I'm getting a PS5 when they come out. They will be compatible with PS4 games.

At least they'll be compatible with the later PS4 games (TLoU II is obviously confirmed). It's not confirmed if it's going to work on older PS4 games, tho.

I'll also get a PS5, eventually. Not on the first day, more like at some point during next year. In the first few months they aren't going to have a lot of exclusive games (which is the sole reason to buy a PS4, the amazing exclusive games made by Sony's studios), they'll need time to build-up the catalogue.
