    Re: The KNBR thread

Ric Bucher was announced today as Eric Davis' replacement and co-host alongside Brandon Tierney on "The Drive" from the 3-7 slot. Very, very interesting hire. Bucher did a solid job covering the Warriors beat while with the Merc and he did well with ESPN, so now to see him back in the bay with The Game may garner more interest, especially now that they've shuffled their line up around. For those who don't know...

    The Rise Guys 6-10
Townsend & Steinmetz (yes, Matt Steinmetz) 10-12
The Wheelhouse w/ John Lund & Greg Papa 12-3
The Drive w/ Brandon Tierney & Ric Bucher 3-7

That's rough cause I love The Wheelhouse, but I'm a Damon Bruce listener through and through. I've only listened to Mr. T since Eric Davis left cause I really don't like Tierney, but I'll be back to switching back and forth between The Drive and Mr. T again just to see how Bucher will mesh.

I updated the name of the thread to include the Game, hope you're all cool with that.

As a long-time listener of KNBR and a initial doubter of the Game, I gotta say that I spend at least as much time listening to 95.7 now and sometimes will even check it first--especially in the 9 AM - 3 PM time slot.

I still don't get how anyone listens to Gary Radnich. I'm all over the final hour of The Rise Guys and listen through The Pulse. Never do I check out that tool Radnich. But it's ironic that he loves feeding off the negative energy that surrounds his show.

I really like Larry. Always have.

I don't know what to say about Gary. I think he must have his demographic that keeps him going. He's certainly not an analyst or a numbers guy. I rarely listen to him, despite liking Larry.

I'm a fan going back to his night show. He was far better than Bruce. He knew his stuff, he was passionate about the Bay Area sports team, and he has outspoken--but not totally over the top.

I hope he gets his own gig again someday.

BtW- I think there needs to be a certification or voting before a sports personality can be an "insider". Baggs is an insider. Maiocco is an insider.

    Guys like Ratto are personalities.

You can't be an insider if you simply offer opinions and report on the same materials as the mainstream.

I never liked Krueger even when he did Sportsphone 680. He was a constant pessimist. Some might say he is a realist, but he has always been the ultimate "grass is greener" type of guy. I still listened to him, but i always found myself disagreeing with his opinions and how he backed them up. He's nowhere near as bad as Fitz, but I'm not a big fan.

That's probably why I like him. With my favorite teams, I often discuss the negative before I enjoy the positive. Perhaps it's because the positive is such a simple topic to address--Buster Posey is awesome, Cain's perfect game was amazing, the Giants are winning the West. I'm done talking about that in about 60 seconds.

Now, Crawford's BA, Panda's weight, Timmy's lack of control... those are subjects that linger far longer than our future HoF catcher and our solid starting rotation.

Of course, I love hearing the national media gush about the Niners.

Yea but what frustrated me about Krueger was that he'd always say , " you could have had this guy , but you ended up with this guy"... Alwas assuming that a player from another team was better, when often times they werent. Its just sonething that always annoyed me

    Yeah, I can understand that.

I remember back in the day when Fitzgerald spent an entire season going off on why the Giants should sign Griffey Jr. and how he'd hit 800+ HRs. That didn't end up happening for Griffey. Since then I get annoyed when Fitzgerald projects some free agent to greatness for the Giants.

Fitz is the worst, especially when he tries to introduce new rules that will "make the games better". He is absolutely the worst.

I remember Kreuger campaigned for the Giants to pursue Jorge Posada a bit after Buster Posey went down last season. Oh boy.

And yeah, Fitz ... yeah, um, I don't exactly know what or why he's talking about something that he seems to be completely oblivious to or that he makes these odd scenarios up and attempts to justify them and make them sound like they're the greatest thing ever. "WHY ISN'T THAT A RULE, ROD?!"

Re: The 680 KNBR & 95.7 the GAME thread

Holy crap, anyone catch the news?

Damon Bruce is leaving 1050 for 95.7 and will host 3pm-7pm. The Rise Guys are done with Bucher and Towny shifting them to the morning show.

Sounds like a ratings move. Still think Tolbert will beat Bruce in ratings. But it's gonna be fun listening to Bruce rant about Cumulus, KNBR, and Radnich for a day. Then I'll turn it off and switch back to Mr. T.

That is great news to me since I cannot stand KNBR. I always liked Bruce, one of the few KNBR guy's I would listen to. I never liked the Rise Guy's, so will be good to have Bucher and Towny in the am and Bruce in the afternoon.

That's pretty big. I'm a Damon Bruce fan, i think the guy tells it like it is and is not afraid to voice his opinion and stick to it. Much better than Fitz and Brooks in that time slot on KNBR. I thought he deserved to be on 680. Nice move by 95.7. Never listened to the morning show on 95.7, i still like listening to Murph and Mac on KNBR (Pauly Mac mostly). Tolbert is still the man, so i'll probably listen to less Damon Bruce on the ride home, but there will be plenty of ranting lol which will be awesome.

Re: The 680 KNBR & 95.7 the GAME thread

KNBR never giving Bruce a shot at 680 (except that experiment on 9-noon w/ Gary) and not really scrambling to bring him back to 1050 was telling. They don't care.

I used like Damon and then he went on that misogynist rant and he totally fell out of my flavor.

In the end, the biggest lose is Dibley. Burned bridges with KNBR. Is done with PBP with the Earthquakes. Canned from The Rise Guys. Where does he go now?

And it looks like Jason Barrett is done as Program Director. For the amount of shifting in the programming and how many guys left and got canned under his direction, it's best they part ways. 957's still got a long ways to go. Other than Lund/Papa, they're getting creamed in ratings.
