Do we have one of these somewhere already?

I hope after Tony Bruno's twitter comment that we won't have to suffer his bad appearances with Gary anymore. I've always thought the guy was boring and extremely off-topic for anyone wanting to hear something about Bay Area sports. He clearly here has no love for this market:

    The mighty Frisco boys? LOL.

And hitting a batter after a guy steals a bag up six is hard nosed baseball. I loved it.

I wish they would just blow up the whole station. KNBR is just dreadful.

    Re: The KNBR thread

Sad to say, but I mostly agree with you. I like the morning show, Ralph and Tom, and many of the weekend Giants guys. Gary is way off-topic for anyone wanting focused sports talk, Fitz and Brooks are homers who drown out callers with opposing opinions with the same tired lines, and the night show really needs a hardcore guy like Larry Krueger who will just talk sports.

KNBR has actually been better lately with Krueger hanging with Brooks and Damon Bruce with Gary.

Bruce, who I think suffers on his own with unchallenged rants, is much better with a second host. Gary needs someone to keep him on-topic and actually talking about sports. I hadn't listened to Gary in well over a year after getting fed up with the endless "nobody cares" schtick.

Absolutely hate Fitz/Brooks. Have you had a chance to catch the new Damon Bruce and Gary Radnich show? I haven't, yet. The change makes sense, though, for the reasons you stated and then some.

Also, have you had the chance to listen to any of 95.7FM The Game? I heard a few minutes of it and it was just... yikes. They wanted a station that wouldn't focus just on the Giants and never the A's? I wonder if the Warriors will end up moving over to The Game...

    Re: The KNBR thread

Fitz's commentary on the Warriors is the worst homerism I've heard on KNBR--and Rod backs him up. When a caller tries to point out a flaw in the organization or on the team, they just overpower them with whatever evidence counters the caller's viewpoint while ignoring the larger issues--the Warriors are one of the worst franchises in professional sports and have failed to do anything outside of Nellie's run-and-gun push to the playoffs that one season. Pointing our injury problems or lack a power forward or center may defeat an individual argument by a caller, but they rarely address (like Tom Tolbert) the overall program that the organization is just bad, bad, bad.

I far prefer Damon Bruce and Gary over Gary by himself. The few times I've had time to listen to the show Damon really kept on Bay Area sports--the reason I turn KNBR on in the first place.

I'll have to check out 95.7. It appears you think it's not a great product?

    Re: The KNBR thread

Damon is fun to listen to. Knows what he's talking about, interacts with the fans...

I've only listened to The Game twice, so I'll need to give it a couple more rounds before I make my final inquisition. I just find it funny they hired analysts from different sports worlds to give their expertise on sports they don't cover. It didn't seem like they had organization at first thought with guys like Eric Davis discussing Giants. I remember one person saying it was like Bip Roberts was giving insight on the 49ers. Nevertheless, I'll have to check it out more..

I'm glad to have KNBR around, becuase they're coverage of the sports is great. I also like PCon's College Football show on Saturdays. But they do need to change the daily programming.

Bob Fitzgerald needs to be shipped off to some Chicago station. That guy is horrible...... He's a know it all that knows little. He was talking about his son's getting into fantasy football, and he said he looked at his sons team and said, "your team sucks. When you pick Jamaal Charles in the first round, you're not gonna have a good team". Something along those lines. This was before Charles got hurt also.

I am not sure how you guys do it. I can not stay on that station for longer than 5 minutes. It is just brutal.

Well, the way i do it now, i only listen when i'm in the car, which is mainly to and from work. So i get the morning show, and then Ralph and Tom. The morning show kinda grew on me, i like Pauly Mac, can't say i'm a fan of Brian Murphy though. I do enjoy Ralph and Tom though.

    Re: The KNBR thread

Pauly is OK. Mac is just horrendous. And no other team or sport exists other than Giants baseball so no reason for me to listen to that show.

I used to like Ralph and Tom... I still think Tom is ok but Ralph flat out is the most annoying POS. I think at this point I would rather listen to Fitz than this guy and that is SAYING ALOT. He NEVER shuts up. Tom asks a question of a guest that I am very interested in hearing and Ralph just talks over the answer. And he has become even more marbled mouthed than before. I can't understand a word that guy is saying. Then the moment you think they might be getting somewhere, there is a commercial break. Ugh.

I have taken to the unimaginable and turning it to the sac station for Grant Napier. Dude is a complete prick but man, he has FANTASTIC guests and you actually get to hear the guest answer questions. wow, novel concept. Also doing some expirementing, KNBR did 3 separate commercial breaks during one continues interview on Grants show.

KNBR is just so arrogant. They know they are king so they can just do commericial after commercial.... well I am hoping that the FM station or someone else can make a dent just so they will be forced to compete. Have not listened to The Game much, but it was pretty bad when I have.

It really is all about satelite for me when it comes to sports talk on the radio.

I like Ratto. He is a bit crass but he is knowledgeable and has takes that are usually a bit different than the consensus. I like Ted Robinson as well. Ralph needs to hang em up though.

Ted Robinson is good in some areas. He's a good historian, but he's a know it all. And he's boring, and he talks waaaaaaaayyy too much about tennis. THere are worse out there, but combine Ralph with Ted, ewww, no thanks,

    Re: The KNBR thread

Tolbert is why I listen as well. His commentary on the Warriors is especially spot on (IMO).

Ratto is good, but I've made the mistake of falling for his insider perspectives before only to find out a few weeks later that he was totally wrong. Case-in-point: Crabtree. I listened to him give a convincing 15 minute explanation of how the Crabtree situation was going to go down, including waiting for the following year's draft and already having assurances from teams he'd go higher and get more money. I gotta say, I believed. Then Crabtree signed the following week.

Fitz used to be my favorite back in 92-95ish when he was hosting the evening show. He was just an encyclopedia of knowledge, or so it seemed to my 15-year-old self. Nowadays I think he's the worst on the station for Warriors commentary and comes off as a total hypocrite when he speaks of the obvious changes the Giants need to make when he rejects the same basic concepts when talking about the Warriors. If Fitz gave the play-by-play for the Giants he'd be telling us all daily that the team is injured and we can't expect results when the team is injured. Hah. Don't get me started. I laugh my ass off when I hear him explain that opposing guards are having unusual nights when they shoot for very high percentages against Dubs' guards, yet when opposing pitchers blank the Giants it's not because the pitcher is having an unusual night--it's because the Giants offense sucks. C'mon, man. It's true the Giants offense sucks and it's also true that the Warriors guards play no D and allow open shots on the basket--thus giving up a much higher percentage. :crack:

I'm stoked that Larry Krueger is back on KNBR--we need more guys like him. I'm not sure I like his dynamic with Gary, who seems to just question any bold prediction with his 5 minute "really?" shtick. Whenever Gary starts his "what do you care?" or "no one cares!" or "really?" shtick I usually change the station. He's just wasting everyone's time. If you dig it for entertainment value so be it, but I learn nothing from him when he goes off on the same repeated routines.

I still haven't checked out that FM station. I saw a story on it in the Press Democrat the other day. I'll need to check 'em out.

    Re: The KNBR thread

I'm never up early enough to catch Murph and Mac. I'm always there for Gary and Larry. And ugh, Radnich is just awful now. He used to be so good back then when I didn't really understand sports like how I do now, but now he's just... boring and bitter. He's turned into such a manipulative guy, too. I can't believe Lee Hammer has him around still.

I always enjoy Damon Bruce, but can never listen to him in my car cause 1050 turns into 957FM with all the static so I stream it over the internet whenever I can. He makes a lot of points that I tend to disagree with, but he definitely knows how to spark a debate.

Fitz and Brooks... don't get me started.

I like The Razor and Mr. T, as well, but I agree Ralph can be obnoxiously annoying/boring at times. He is very lucky to have Tolbert by his side.

The Sportsphone with Eric Byrnes is on and off for me. One night, it's a good listen. The next, it's awful. Then we get Marty Lurie over the weekends and I'm like... meh.

I've listened to The Game a couple times and didn't enjoy it at all. For one, the static is annoying. I can't get any signal in my car to hear it clearly no matter where I am. And the hosts are just whatever to me. I haven't heard anything special, yet.

The way I see it, Fitz and Brooks may not last that long. Their ratings suck and the NBA lockout is hurting their show even more. If they leave, I can see Bruce moving to 680. I'm just awaiting the day Hammer parts way with Radnich and brings in someone like Ray Ratto.

    Re: The KNBR thread

I prefer Larry Krueger anyway. But Bruce is fine. They're both a bit dramatic and out-spoken and Gary has a problem with that as it kinda goes against his "no one cares" shtick. Funny how the two hosts KNBR has stuck with him cares a lot.

I've always like Krueger. I'd be cool if he returned to the night show, especially during Giants season.

I just wonder who Cumulus is going to start giving the axe to. They're expected to make some major cuts to KNBR soon.

Really? Hopefully Rod and Brooks. And Gary. I'm cool with the morning show and Razor/Mr. T.

When is Cumulus going to ask for my opinion I wonder?
