Stern wants smaller future contracts

    he says he wants smaller future contracts so teams can undo their mistakes, thereby 'giving fans hope.' I honestly think he just wants more money for the league and less for the players. how do you guys feel about smaller future contracts? I think it's a good idea, but I don't think the players union will agree to this proposal.

    If he wants that, we're heading for a lock out for sure... The contract structure of the NBA is great, except I don't think the whole contract should be guaranteed. But other than that, it works really well, particularly the rookie scale.

    I dont think the motivation is quite right (to help teams that made mistakes) but ANYTHING that reduces guaranteed contracts is something I support. Long term guaranteed contracts are terrible for the game. Amazing how many times you see a guy pretty much shut it down after getting their 5-6 year guaranteed money. I really dont like the contract structure of the NBA other than the rookie scale. I would love to see it more more towards the NFL with a HARD CAP and unguaranteed contracts. I dont see that every happening, but I think the game would be SO MUCH better.
