"Just" $67 million available. Keep in mind the new contracts for Jimmy G and Goodwin. It's more than enough for two top CBs, but I don't think they're going that route. They'll sign one, draft another and use their cap space to fix other needs, imho.

The Raiders are also going after Trumaine, tho. If he signs there, I see no reason why the Niners wouldn't try to sign Sherman, other than fear of the player they're going to get back from his injury.

Well, Sherman will start his free agent tour visiting the Niners. He's also received interest from the Raiders, Lions, Titans, Texans, Packers and Bucs. If he's serious about joining a contender, seems like the Packers should have the upper hand in that group (as long as Rodgers stays healthy, that is). But anything can happen, might not even leave the Bay without a contract.

And just like that, he agreed to sign. 3 years, $39.15m.

Makes sense on his end. He stays on the west coast close to family. And I’m sure he appreciated John Lynch, one Stanford alum to another.

For a guy who’s gimmick is pro wrestling-esque, going “heel” on the Seahawks was almost expected!

Well, that was fast... hope he gets back to being the player he was before his injury, guys. It's certainly a great signing.

btw, what's the word on Carlos Hyde, guys? Is he going to re-sign with the Niners? Because the Bucs really need a RB and are looking to add one in the draft and another via free agency and, pending cuts, the only two free agents I'd like to sign are Hyde and Crowell. Everybody is else is kinda meh....

Last I read is that they’re open to bringing him back, but they don’t want to compete with the market. They trust their guys behind him and believe they can find someone in free agency if they’re priced out.

Niners making Jerick McKinnon the 4th highest paid RB in the NFL. Jerick McKinnon!!!

Bucs were interested in him, but not at that price tag. Jets also decided to not beat their offer.

WOW... Jerick McKinnon getting THAT type of dough? I just dont get it. Guys like him are a dime a dozen. Could use a 4th or 5th round pick and get a guy like that.

Yea, i think they are really projecting big things from him in this offense. But i don't like it, especially when Hyde signed for less with the Browns. I guess it all depends on the structure of the contract as well, but I'm not a huge fan of this signing. I think McKinnon is solid, especially as a pass catcher, but we still need to address the position.

Hyde did not have very good hands as a pass catcher, so this is a plus.

eh.. that one thing doesn't make it a plus for me. Not at that number. But we'll see the contract details. McKinnon is a better fit for the offense, but he's not a better player overall. Of course, you need to get guys to fit the offense.

I think he'll be useful. Shanahan will use him all over the offense, running and also as a receiver quite often.

But that's still a crazy deal, no matter how you look at it.

No doubt he will be useful and may be a better fit into what they are doing... but guys like that can be had cheap. Its like an average wing in the nba... dime a dozen.

What was he being valued at by other teams?

The Bucs were willing to sign him to half of what he signed for with the Niners. Bailed once the price got that high. The Jets were in the hunt til the very end, from what I've heard.

So it can be said that the Niners paid what they had to in order to secure the player they wanted. But that's not the whole story... Bada's right, you can find guys in the draft with a similar skill set at a fraction of the price.

Looking at the deal, its a decent price for the 1st 2 years.. so i'm ok with it for now.

That is a lot of coin for a 3rd down back. He does have some talent, so we will see.

Do the 49ers know more about the Reuben Foster thing that the police dont know? Otherwise their response yesterday was SHAMEFUL!!! 8 or more punches to the head... ruptured ear drum...dragging her by the hair... and she had to escape her house and run to a stranger to help her. Jesus!

Failed drug test... kicked out of the combine for attacking a female medical professional, 2 arrests all in 1 year time. This guy is a piece of shit. But I guess if you can ball it is ok.

i agree, as talented as he is.. i'm pretty fed up with this whole thing. I'm not sure what the Niners stance is based on.. but for now i'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't think there is a decision that puts the organization in a positive light. If they drop them, there will be a segment of society that says they gave up on a guy instead of helping him. And the other more obvious stance is, how do you let someone occupy a roster spot that has done these things to a woman? I think they have to let it play out and then make the most informed decision that they can.
