Pretty much agreed. With a healthy Klay, the expectations would be to be a contender. Without him, this still should be a playoff team and one that would be pretty dangerous in the playoffs. We're not favorites like in previous years, but that doesn't mean this roster doesn't come with high expectations.

Locally, yes, I agree. Nationally, most think otherwise. And they’re still partying over the make up of this roster.

Anybody watched the first preseason game? I've read that Poole looked pretty good, but not much other than that... not that it matters, just curious.

I did. Mcgee, AD, and to some degree Howard, destroyed us on the glass. Pretty much as expected.

Dlo and Poole both looked good. Its going to take me a while to get used to who is who our there. Spellman did a pretty good job considering who he was up against. At least can match up physical strength wise. One of the newest guys like the 15th man had some serious hustle. Toscano or something like that. Dlo did not have a good shooting night but definitely looked strong running the second unit when Steph sat. Evans looked like a guy fighting for his place in the league, very aggressive.
We may be in for a LONG year. At least some major growing pains

No Looney. No Cauley-Stein. No Smilagic. That frontline was extremely thin and the Lakers exposed it. The center spot may provide some headaches if injuries arise because they’re thin there. The upside is when healthy, they have options. Looney is the starter. WCS, Spellman and Green can all rotate at 5.

Poole is just advertised. They want him to shoot. He’s very confident in himself. And so he shot. They’re going to utilize him a lot this season.

Paschall is intriguing. It’ll be interesting to see how Kerr utilizes him this season. He has the potential to be versatile.

Russell’s great. I’d like to see him get more aggressive as the season progresses. He’s grown a lot since his rookie year.

Evans in a larger role will be important. He knocked down some jumpers last night, including some 3s. He’s going to be the backup ball handler, so it’s important for him to continue to see PT and play through his mistakes.

Toscano won’t make the roster, but we love him because he’s a Warriors Youth Camp alumni and was coached by Al Attles’ wife as a kid. He’ll land back in Santa Cruz unless he chooses to explore elsewhere. He’s got good energy, but there’s just no room right now for him.

McKinnie has to have a strong preseason. He’s still playing for his job. With the center spot thin, Marquese Chriss could get lots of looks. And while he fouled out quickly last night, the positive of what he provided could force the front office to make a decision. Chriss can only make the team if either McKinnie is cut or they cut one of the two-way players and he accepts a two-way deal.

No Burks last night because of a sprained ankle, so we’ll have to wait until Thursday for a first look at him. I didn’t get a good look at Glenn Robinson III so no comment.

Defensively, this year will be very tough. Green is great, but without Klay, Iguodala, Livingston... veteran guys who excel on perimeter defense, he’s going to get attacked a lot. And teams will try to draw fouls on him as much as possible.

Second the Paschall mention. He has size and agility. I liked what I saw from him

Draymond needs a more fluid motion for his shot. He does this flat footed hop forward thing where he kind of chucks it at the rim. I’d like to see his shot come from his feet and through the core in a more fluid motion. It needs to feel good for it to become consistent

By the looks of last game and the start of this game, Alfonzo McKinnie might get cut to make room for Marquese Chriss.

I like McKinnie, but that would make an awful lot of sense. We've got way more depth on the wings than inside. and Chriss is young, has some potential to develop and fits a bigger need.

Glenn Robinson III might be the opening night starting 3 with Burks and Paschall as back ups. Poole’s shot is NBA ready. Then there’s Evans.

You’re right, TMC. There’s a lot of depth there. And then there’s that Klay guy. Even with a healthy WCS & Looney (and Smailagic to an extent) next to Draymond, they still need a 4th big. This might be the perfect situation to bring out Chriss’ potential. Dray has already talked about how much of a leap he’s made just in training camp.

With the injuries up front and the question marks anyway with our bigs, I agree. I think we have to keep Chriss. Unfortunately because of being hard capped, cutting McKinnie is one of only a couple choices to be able to do it. Dont think losing McKinnie is that big of a blow.

When I say I like him, I mean that he's alright as a hustle guy, the kind of guy you like to have as your 10th, 11th guy on the rotation. You're in trouble if you have to rely on him to be a starter, tho. But definitely can play a role in a NBA roster.

We just have too many needs and question marks inside to keep him over Chriss. It'd be a luxury we can't afford at this point.

I am going to try and not beat this like a dead horse, however having missed our first pre season game and watching some last night, I was horrified to see "San Francisco" painted on our baseline. What is the purpose of that? It is NOT in any way part of our team name? Oh yeah, because it will be. Oh and we also will wear jersey's this year with San Francisco across the chest. puke! Not once in nearly 50 years did the Warriors wear a jersey that said Oakland.

So much for "pretending" to myself they are not in SF.

They should keep it Golden State. When Frank Mieuli bought the team and brought it to the Bay Area from Philly in the 60s, he named them the Golden State Warriors because he didn't want to exclude anyone (he did consider the Bay Area Warriors.)

I think that is a great message and an important part of the team's history.

Yeah, if you have a name and history that includes everybody and all of a sudden you change it, all that talk about being inclusive and keeping the Warriors the team of the Bay Area becomes BS.

Not that it should surprise anybody, tho...

To me, they should just change the damn name and stop patronizing us and thinking they are being subtle about it. They WANT to be the SAN FRANCISCO Warriors... so just do it
