Josh Okogie is fun. At least he runs. Not very well, like he's not really sure where he's going, but at least Covington is not the only one trying to play defense... And Okogie can score a bit.

Towns, on the other way, doesn't even try on defense. No wonder Jimmy Butler wanted to kill him or Embiid trolls him. A shame a guy so talented doesn't take his career seriously.

I like Towns, a lot. He is a terror offensively, especially now that he’s added a three-pointer you have to respect as a defender. But yeah, defensively... the dude needs a Draymond Green next to him.

He can be a terror offensively, but then he has nights like the last one when he goes 3-14 in treys... He's got to be smarter and not force bad shots just because he can make a few. In this day and age, it's hard to coach a guy like that, because he totally deserved to be benched yesterday, but Saunders clearly didn't dare

The more the Bulls play Coby White, the sooner they'll be a playoff team again. He's outplayed Satoransky and Dunn, and could be a runner for ROY if his minutes increase. Definitely one of the most impressive rookies so far.

Haven't been able to sleep much tonight, so I'm watching the Pels at Phoenix.

Man, what a change of scenery has done for Brandon Ingram. He's a completely different player since he left LA, taking over the game, making tough shots... We'll see what happens when Zion is healthy, but if those two can get along well on the court (and I see no reason not to), NOLA has a chance to be real good as soon as next year (and if they fix their defense and make it at least average, because Holiday is great, but everybody else is not). Let's keep in mind they have a pretty deep roster with good, young players that will develop and a zillion picks. The future looks bright for the Pels.

Hopefully they will be able to keep him with the way he’s gradually improved. He’s a RFA in 2020 and he’s definitely an intriguing guy to pursue in what will likely be a weak FA class in comparison to year’s past.

Extended to a max deal before you can say "Hey, I'd like to talk to you...". Just wait.

Watching New Orleans get demolished at Dallas. The Pelicans defense is going to get Gentry fired, and it won't take long.

After watching a few Pels games lately (not for anything in particular, they just happen to have a ton of prime time games, that's what happens when you schedule so soon and then Zion missed half the season), I've checked a few stats and found something... let's say unexpected:

The Pels suck the most when Lonzo Ball is in the game. Their defense is among the league's worst and the offense plummets.

When you replace Lonzo with Kenrich Williams, both offense and defense improve, and not marginally, A LOT.

Never been a huge fan of Lonzo, but the numbers are staggeringly bad when he's on the court. Didn't expect that.

I like Lonzo, but he’s got a wacky shot, he’s injury prone and his dad created circus attention around him to start. Hope he figures it out, but it just hasn’t happened in 2 & 1/4 seasons.

This last draft might have had one of the best classes in years. We haven't seen Zion yet, but Ja Morant, Tyler Herro, Paschall, Rui Hachimura, P.J. Washington and Brandon Clarke are all having an impact this season (not the same degree of impact, mind you, but all of them are contributing). Those are not the only ones, but some of the most noticeable.

In any case, seem like this class has been really deep and with several players that will develop into good NBA players, some of them all stars.

Agreed. 2020 is a toss up. This feels like the heaviest scouted draft class in years... teams are looking for value everywhere. There’s no certainty in the lottery.

Love this Miami team. I've always had a soft spot for the Heat, as I became a "closet fan" during the Mourning-Tim Hardaway years, and this Heat roster is really, really fun to watch. Jimmy has been a perfect fit so far, in terms of playing and in terms of leadership. Spoelstra is a great coach, we all knew that, but he's doing a great job with the young Heat. And they're developing players that are playing an important role for them: Duncan Robinson has become a terrific shooter, Tyler Herro had an awful game vs Atlanta, but made big shot after big shot vs Chicago the previous one, and is just a rookie. Adebayo and Jimmy both had a triple-double vs Atlanta, and are f*cking intense on the court. They've also developed Kendrick Nunn (we helped, I guess), who's having a season nobody saw coming. And they're deep, with guys like Justice Winslow, Dragic or Derrick Jones coming from the bench.

So Miami is 11-0 at home after beating Atlanta in OT, an incredible game last night. This team is fun, and this team can go deep in the playoffs because they play good defense and are not afraid to take (and make) difficult shots. They're not a threat to Milwaukee or Philly (or Brooklyn, once KD comes back), but they're really good and fun to watch. Probably one good player away from being a contender, but certainly in the next step. If they get one before Jimmy starts to fade away, they might have a chance.

Who wouldda thought Jimmy's leadership was going to help a team so much... But so far, so good. Seriously, they're a really fun team to watch if you don't have anything else to do and they're playing.

Jimmy Butler IS the Heat culture. He embodies their brand of basketball. Dude is just a dog and it’s evident why he did not fit with Minny. Mentality is just different.

Amazing how a team with so much promise is sinking so fast in the standings, but Atlanta has to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year. Trae Young has been playing great, Collins is a great player as well (and him missing 25 games has a lot to do with Atlanta's dreadful record) and Hunter has shown promise, playing really good defense and with a few good offensive outings too.

Other than that, Atlanta has nothing. It shouldn't surprise anybody that Cam Reddish is failing to make an impact (can be a role player, sure, but that's not a guy you pick at #10 overall), Huerter hasn't developed much, there's no depth at all, and don't get me started on Jabari Parker... their next best player might be Alex Len, or Vince at 42!!!

I don't know if the Hawks are planning to give one more season to Lloyd Pierce, but so far, seems like the team is regressing.

Also, in a totally unrelated post, Spencer Dinwiddie should be an all-star this year. With injuries piling up and the Nets totally decimated, he's keeping them in the playoff race with a positive record in the east. Not an easy feat to do with that roster missing their three best players.

I hate how they’re marketing Trae Young. “The team may be at the bottom, but he’s putting up crazy numbers! Can he be an all-star?”

Uh... no. They’re not winning. They’re not playing well.

This is why ratings are low. Too much focus on marketing the star and not enough focus on the game. Maybe it’s just me, but I think the NBA’s gotta follow the NFL’s recipe where games are only played on select nights and they market the heck out of a “prime time” matchup. Give me more marquee games with Giannis.
